How many of you remember as a kid asking your parents for something and hearing that it couldn’t be done? Or how about whenever you stood up in class and said what you wanted to be when you grow up, only to hear people laugh and tell you that it will never happen? Everyone has had experiences such as these growing up, and the sad reality is that it doesn’t end when we reach adulthood. If anything, we seem to be faced with even more impossibilities as we get older and go through life’s changes and seasons. If we are not careful, we will allow these different experiences to shape and rule our thought life, leading us to have a limited understanding of just what is possible and what is not. But there is good news! All things are possible, and it’s not based on your circumstances or past experiences. In fact, I’ll even go as far as to say that what is possible isn’t even based on what others have to say or think. No, what is possible is based on one thing and one thing alone, and that is the Word of God. Let’s see what the Word has to say about this word “possible.”
“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, ‘With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.’” Matthew 19:26, KJV
Before Jesus says this, He has an interesting conversation with a rich man. The man asks Jesus how to gain eternal life, and walks away disheartened after hearing Jesus's answer. As the man walks away, Jesus tells his disciples, “How hard is it for a rich man to enter into Heaven?” The disciples then ask, "Is it possible for anyone to be saved?" This is where we get Jesus’ response in Matthew 19:26. The Passion Translation reads His response like this, “Humanly speaking no one, because no man can save himself. But what seems impossible to you is never impossible with God.” Here Jesus is stating that with God, all things are possible.
“Jesus said to him, 'If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’” Mark 9:23, NKJV
Mark’s gospel also gives an account of Jesus stating what is possible. A man asks Jesus to heal his son after the disciples could not. He says to Jesus: “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus then responds with what we see in Mark 9:23. The Passion Translation reads, “What do you mean “if”? If you are able to believe, all things are possible to the believer.”
In these two verses we see two things:
All things are possible with God. Nothing is impossible when you are with Him.
All things are possible to him who believes. Believes what? That God is willing and able to do what He said He will do.
The Word of God is filled with promises that He has given to us. And because of Jesus Christ, we have access to these promises by faith. All we must do is believe and know that they are possible with God. Choose to believe in God. Choose to stick with God no matter how hard things get. Remind yourself each day of these two things. Remind yourself that all things are possible for you because God is with you, and because you believe Him and His Word. Act like it is so, and nothing will be impossible for you.
