The word lonely is not a fun, jump out of your seat, make you smile type of word. When you hear it, it can bring sadness, grief, and sometimes a feeling of despair.
This word provokes a feeling and not-so-good feelings at that. But what if I told you out of your loneliness comes something GREAT? I am reminded of reading about Jesus’ loneliness in the Bible. In scripture, you read “Jesus was led by the Spirit for 40 days and 40 nights to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:2)”, “but the Son of Man has nowhere to lie His head (Matthew 8:20)”, and on the cross, Jesus yelled “My God, My God why have you forsaken Me? (Matthew 27:46). What do the portions of these scriptures all have in common? Jesus was alone or felt alone. But if you know His story and you know the end, which I believe most of us do, He was on a journey.
He was on a journey that His Father had put Him on.
Loneliness in the world is a feeling we should never experience but loneliness for the believer is a place of intention and purpose. If God has placed you on a path that feels lonely, I am here to say, “It’s ok”. God will make you move over 3,000 miles to get your attention; away from everything you know to just get you alone with Him. He will place you where His voice becomes louder on the inside than the noise on the outside. Loneliness if allowed breeds poor intentions, but if you understand who your God is you know you are never really alone.
God’s intended path for your life sometimes is lonely.
I speak from personal testimony that God’s plan for your life is not always full of friends, family, and church. I want to encourage you today to read about Jesus’ moments when He was alone. Our King of Kings did not have a bed to call His own, but He always knew He was on the perfect path set before Him that was made just for Him. He experienced emotion and did not always understand what was in front of Him, but He kept pursuing it to the end. Today I want to encourage you to get alone, pray, and begin to understand how you can use the time of loneliness to be closer to God. The holidays can be a very lonely time for some. Allow your time alone to be in His presence. Ask for understanding and peace in the season you are in. He will answer if you just listen.
My prayer: Lord, I lift up to You all who have come into a season of loneliness and being alone. I pray that this season becomes a time of great revelation. You created our path and purpose and everything in You is good. I believe that this season will allow me to become closer to You and I will find fellowship in You my All-Mighty God! You are My Creator and the vision You have for me is GREAT! I pray that I receive all that is for me in this time of loneliness. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
