Heaviness

Am I the only one who has those days where you can’t put a finger on it but you feel “not right?” At first glance I want to say I am sad or depressed, but that doesn’t explain how I am feeling properly. In these times of questioning I go to the Word of God. In Proverbs 12:25 there is a word that explains these feelings I was experiencing perfectly.
Proverbs 12:25: “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”
That word is heaviness.
One of the things I love most about the Word of God is you can find your diagnosis and cure all in one scripture. I was indeed experiencing heaviness and it was for sure weighing me down (my diagnosis). Therefore, I went to the good Word of God and it made me glad (my cure).
In Psalm 119:28 the Psalmist writes, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” The Word of God again gives you your diagnosis and your cure. If you are feeling sorrow, go to the Word of God to strengthen yourself. In Isaiah 61:3 it says, “...a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” Another diagnosis and cure. If you are feeling despair, praise Him and the despair will lift.
God does not make you go searching with a treasure map or multiple levels to get to the prize. He freely gives to those who ask. It is one of the reasons why I started writing devotionals. Over and over again God has told me my staying power is the Word of God. This is my source and instruction book. It diagnoses me and cures me.
A lot of times we make things complicated. We think there is more “value” in things that come with a challenge. That is not how God works. God will change your life with just one phrase, one sentence, one word. Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent out His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave.”
So, why not go to the Word of God to find your cure?
Confessions:
I invite Jesus into my heart, I make Him a part of my life. He paid the price so it would be this simple and free for me.
I will strengthen myself according to your Word.
I will prioritize the life-giving Word of God in my life.
Your Word makes me glad. It brings me encouragement.
Your Word restores joy to my heart.
