God Makes Me Enough

God Makes Me Enough

In this day and age, we have so much in front of us that tries to dictate our worth and make us question our identities. Common questions people ask throughout their lives are: "Am I enough?" "Am I doing enough?” How do people answer these questions? People continuously look for ways to fill these questions whether it be through other people, their achievements, or the belongings they acquire. The truth of the matter is that we need to get our focus off of what the world says makes us enough and instead, we need to look to our God, EL SHADDAI, the God who is more than enough, and see what His word says about us.
Did you know God chose you? YES, YOU! God chose you and created you long before you were born.
Ephesians 1:4-5
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Christ Jesus. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
God wanted us from the very beginning but as much as we hope and try to be enough we can’t. After the fall of man in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), we were no longer perfect beings and nothing we could do would ever be enough. The only one who was enough was Jesus. If we were ever going to be enough, God wouldn’t have needed to send his son down to earth to die for us to restore us back to him. So our worth with God isn’t based on what we do, but based on what Jesus did for us and our faith in Him. But that doesn’t stop us from still dealing with these questions in our lives.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
I’m not gonna sit here and say I don’t ask myself at times if I am enough. There have been many instances in my life where I placed my value and worth in anything but God. I would overwork myself to feel like I was the best at things, and my thoughts would be tainted by other people’s opinions when I tried to get my worth from them. These “methods” of proving to yourself that you are enough are not from God but from the devil and they are never sustainable. We aren’t perfect. Other people aren’t perfect. The only one who is perfect is God and his love and thoughts about us do not change.
The devil will try his hardest to hinder us and keep us from realizing who we are in Christ. He will get our minds self-focused instead of God-focused. That is the time when we need to dig our heels in and stand on who God says he is and what he says about us and not who we think we are. We need to say: No devil I am the righteousness in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21), he made me in his image (Gen 1:27), I am his handiwork made to do good works (Eph 2:10) and he has a plan and purpose for me and I am going to walk out that plan (Jer 29:11).
We have been made right with God through Jesus Christ so we don’t need to strive to be enough. We can say to ourselves “I don’t have to be enough because God makes me enough.”
