Expand Your Tent
By: Kelly O'Brien
The word expand means to become or make larger or more extensive. Isaiah 54:2 talks about expanding your tent.
Expand the space of your tent. Stretch out the curtains of your tent, and don't hold back. Lengthen your tent ropes, and drive in the tent pegs. Isaiah 54:2
The word used here for expand is the Hebrew word, râchab. Râchab means to broaden, enlarge, make room or make wide. With God we should always be aiming to expand upon our relationship with Him. We should never settle in our efforts to get closer to God. We should be expanding out tents, stretching out the curtains, not holding anything back.
In the Old Testament God used to be confined to a place but in the New Testament He lives within us. There is no limit to how much He can expand. We set the boundaries within us, we are responsible for moving out the posts, and lengthening the ropes. We are the only ones who can limit ourselves from knowing God more. Over and over in the word of God increasing, expanding, enlarging is spoken of.
The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Psalm 115: 14-15
So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:10
Again I say the only thing that holds us back from expanding our tents and making more room for the Holy Spirit is ourselves. We need to make the decisions to give Him priority in our lives.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
We will never be disappointed in seeking to expand our relationship with God. He will always meet us where we are at. No matter what size your tent is, He is always there with you.
