Delight

Like a two lane road with traffic going opposite directions, so the word delight is in our
relationship with the Lord. It goes both ways. Which is why this is one of my favorite words to talk about!
Our Part:
Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4 KJV)
Hebrew for delight used in Psalm 37:4 is anag (H6026); to be soft, be delicate, dainty.
Our word in Hebrew for delight is different when it talks about man delighting in God. Our part is
to always remain soft and be delicate. I like to think of a metal that can easily be changed or molded into something different.
If we are delighting in the Lord and being that “soft and dainty” metal that can bend easily, then
when you feel God nudge you to give your co-worker a compliment, you’ll do it. When you feel
God nudge you to go buy something for someone, you’ll do it. When you feel God speaking to
you about asking that person if they need prayer, you’ll do it. When you feel God speaking to you to give money to someone, you’ll do it.
As a soft metal bends so easily to its maker so we must bend easily to ours.
Then when we are soft and bend to His leadings, then we get the fulfillment of the promise in the next line of this verse. He will give us the desires of our hearts!!
God isn’t looking for perfection! Delight doesn’t equal perfection. God just wants our hearts to be soft to Him and to His leading!
God’s Part:
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 37:23 KJV)
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. (Psalm 37:23 NLT)
Hebrew for delight used in Psalm 18:19 is chaphets (H2654); to take pleasure in, desire, be pleased to do
Here the Hebrew word for delight has the usual meaning: to take pleasure in something!
Our God loves us so much that not only does he want to be God who is in Heaven reigning over
the whole world but He wants to be right by our side all the time, walking with us, talking with us, and taking pleasure in all we do. He wants to know us intimately.
You can bet that God takes pleasure in the big moments of life! He loves watching His children
getting saved, getting healed from sickness, getting set free from bondage, habits, and addictions. I mean that’s the whole purpose for the work of Christ on the cross!
BUT
God delights in the smaller things of life too.
God takes pleasure in seeing you be successful at your job. God takes pleasure in watching you raise your children and being married. God takes pleasure in watching you enjoy your day off work! God takes pleasure in you going to the mall with friends! God takes pleasure in you going to get your favorite Starbucks order!
He takes pleasure in it all!
The most beautiful thing about God’s part of delighting is that He doesn’t have to. It’s the fact
that He wants to. That is what makes our God so wonderful and makes Him Abba Father in our lives.
Remember when you feel that leading from the Lord, to be soft and yield to it! That’s your part of
delighting in Him! But don’t forget when you’re at Walmart walking down the grocery aisles, He
is right by your side grocery shopping with you because He delights in every detail of your life!
