Unto You
By: Kelly O'Brien
I love looking back at my devotionals over the past few years. I started this devotional as a married woman then someone going through a divorce, then single and now I am married again. Life happens so quickly. My perspective of life has changed so much in the past few years and I write from that viewpoint.
In the season I am in now I struggle with expectations, mostly of myself. To be the best stepmom, to be the best wife and the list goes on…
From this struggle I have cried out to the Lord so many times, please help! I can’t do it all! I am sure many of you can relate to this desperate plea. One time as I cried out He simply said, “Remember… unto me.”
Such a simple phrase that brought me right back to what and where my expectations should be set. I am to live unto the Lord. What do I mean by that? If my expectations are set by the Lord I will never fall short. It is when I cross over into worldly expectations that I feel I am falling short. I am to live to please the Lord. With aiming to please the Lord I will please my husband, my daughters, my employer or whoever it may be.
Here is some scripture references:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us,
but unto thy name give glory,
for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.
Psalm 115:1
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. Jeremiah 29:12
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
I wrote this devotional as a reminder to not put unrealistic expectations on yourself, letting worldly goals and objections shadow where your real purpose in life comes from. We are to live our lives unto the Lord. When we aim to please Him, we will please the ones around us. He sets us up for success in all areas when we look to Him.
Confessions:
I seek the kingdom of God first.
I give the glory unto the Lord.
I shall call and pray unto the Lord.
The word is my lamp, it is the light unto my path.
I live my life unto the Lord, I aim to please Him.
